This past Sunday my boys’ school held a bowl-a-thon fundraiser. My boys look forward to it every year because they get to bowl and have fun with their friends.
I look forward to it each year, because I love the way the friendship and camaraderie play out! All the kids “on the same team” and are truly happy for each other when their friend scores a strike or a spare, and share the disappointment when the ball just misses the last pin.
For the last 5 minutes of the game they turned the lights off and bowled “glow in the dark”! It was lots of fun, and I took the challenge to try and photograph a bit with the pins highlighting the scene (and the disco lights 😉)
I know it's supposed to be a story in a single image, but I'm really tied between these two. I love the 3 expressions of excitement and joy - someone must have clearly gotten a spare (I definitely don’t think it was a strike...). And even though it’s not perfect because you don’t technically see the pins from their lane, (and there’s a ton of grain) I just love the emotion.
For those of you who want the tech specs, these images were taken at 1/250 of a second, at f/2.8 and ISO 3200 on a Canon 5D Mark IV with the Sigma Art 35 f/1.4 lens.

I intentionally underexposed so I can retain the highlights, but I did underexpose a tad too much, because I forgot to adjust my settings as I changed my point of view. But it doesn't bother me.)
